Loan Forgiveness

I am just curious if anyone has experience with these types of programs. In particular, those payed by local and/or, state, or federal funds. Such as working for the VA, governmental run institutions, or working with the underserved. Something akin to NHSC.

I've heard something about it. Some hospitals maybe will even do it, while you're in your interview for a position as a PT, like a bargaining tool or something. I know the NAVY does it. No, I dont mean having to serve as a seaman...you can be a PT for the NAVY have a salary and they will pay your loans, I don't know how much though. You can go gamble too.

Im wondering the same thing. I'm applying right now to programs and was wondering about loan forgiveness or reimbursement stuff too. In an information packet from a university (i think nyu or columbia), they included some info and places to look at for this stuff. Not sure if it will help but here is what i found.

Service Scholarships

New York City Board of Education Scholarship Program offers full-tuition scholarships to presently enrolled entry-level students in exchange for 18 months of service for each year of scholarship support received. Upon employment, the recipient's salary is at the rate then in effect for all entry-level therapists. The scholarships are competitive based on academic performance, work/volunteer experience and a personal interview. More information can be obtained from the Office of Related and Contractual Services, New York City Board of Education, 110 Livingston Street, Room 536, Brooklyn, NY 11201. The deadline for receipt of applications is May and interviews are held in June.

Kings County Hospital, Department of Rehabilitation Medicine and Education and Training
This is a forgivable loan program that will pay for tuition during the professional phase of the program. The student's commitment is 2 years paid service for each year that is funded. Students must be in good academic standing with a minimum grade point average of 3.00. Deadlines for applying are November 19th 2004 for spring and May 2005 for fall. The following organizations offer additional professional opportunity scholarships to physical therapy students and are available by direct application to the agencies concerned.

I know about the FAFSA, Grad Plus loans, but looking for scholarships and possible tuition payment through facilities. Any advice would be great. My email is [email protected]

My mistake, i meant the first year, however, it is still expensive. The advantage is that its only a two year doctorate program and not three. I figure I already owe a superfluous amount of money for undergrad so i have the rest of my life to pay our great government back.lol
