So i'm straight broke...is there any type of loan or something I can get to help me pay the application fees. I am in school until beg of July full time and even if I get a job after that, probably won't have enough money to pay for application until like september.

I'm not sure what i'm gonna do, so just wanted to know if you guys know of any loan programs or anything...

I should add I have no credit and no cosigner which complicates things even more.

I believe AACOMAS also has fee assistance. Other than that, you'll have to get some kind of private loan. There are no student loans to pay for applying.

You'd also want to check into the fee wavers asap because they only offer so many a cycle and if the trend of recent cycles continues, this cycle will have more AACOMAS applicants than ever and the wavers are bound to go more quickly.

Applying is expensive. After AACOMAS you have secondaries to pay for and then interviews after that... and if all goes well, then a deposit(s) after that. I suggest looking into a short-term loan with your bank (or relatives if at all possible) or carefully using a credit card. Start looking for a source of income to pay for everything.

I have no idea how I would have paid for everything if I wasn't working.

I ended up getting a fee waiver from AACOMAS. Last cycle it was for 3 schools. I was unable to get a waiver from AMCAS because they required parental financial information which I didn't have; AACOMAS is more flexible. Be sure to apply early. Otherwise, I would suggest getting a job if you don't have one over the summer to pay for secondaries and interviews. Jobs with tips are pretty awesome.

Does anyone know how long it usually takes to hear back from AACOMAS for the fee waiver? I mailed mine earlier this week, and I was hoping to be able to apply June 1, so I'd like to know whether or not I was approved. I'd hate to delay several weeks only to find out I was denied and have to pay anyway.

I got the fee assistance from amcas to help with my mcat, and I believe I was approved withing a week or two, so I was hoping the timing was similar.

It depends on how many other people are applying right now; if they're very busy, it could take a while. I seem to recall getting mine within 2 weeks.

Definitely apply for the fee waiver from AACOMAS. But do it immediately. I applied for one last year in July and got denied. Don't worry about delaying your app a few weeks. If you have to get a loan anyway, it's going to be a minute before you can apply. Also, if for some reason you miss out on getting the AACOMAS waiver, as in, you apply, but they have already given all of them out, they will send you something telling you that you were eligible but they ran out. This will get you a secondary fee waiver at a LOT of schools. Of the eight or so I pursued, only LECOM told me they don't honor that waiver. So if you can scrounge up the initial primary fee somehow, you should be in good shape. Good luck!
