location and competitveness of residencies

are residencies in more desireable cities (like NYC) more competitive/harder to get? i know when applying to med schools, that was generally true. i am interested in psych or IM... not the most competitve specialties, but i really want to be in NYC after med school. will it be much tougher to get a residency spot there?

yes, NYC is more competative, but there are a boatload of teaching hospitals there ranging from world-class to third-world. You shouldn't have any problem getting a residency in psych or IM with even below average grades and scores.
