I'm just looking into the financial aspect of applying next year. Hopefully I will be able to get some interviews.

Does anybody here have any tips on how to effectively schedule your interviews, so you aren't flying back and forth across the country multiple times. In an ideal world, all my interview invited would come at once, and I could schedule a week or two on the east coast, a week in the midwest, and a week on the west or something like that.

Are there enough interview dates available to make that even possible? Or somewhat possible? Do the interviews come close enough together where you can plan effectively? Any tips on how to save money and be efficient would be appreciated.

I recieved 10 interview invites...most had 2-4 days, some only offered one date...you have to respond quickly (within an hour or two) to make sure you get the date you want...I got one invite with 3 dates, responded in 20 mins, and got my last choice of dates. On top of that, I heard from the programs over the course of a month or so...don't expect to submit your application and get all your invites quickly. It seemed like most programs waited until 2-3 weeks before their first interview date to send out invites. So it is very difficult to schedule your interviews to optimize your travel plans.

My best advice is to apply heavily in your region of the country, even to programs you think are less appealing. You are MUCH more likely to get interviews at programs that think you have a regional tie to them, unless you are an absolute top applicant. I applied coast to coast, but almost all of my interviews came from my region of the country, despite AOA and 260+ boards. Hopefully you'll be able to drive to some, that's really all the advice I have for limiting costs...I was lucky enough to have tons of frequent flyer miles from family members to cover the costs of my flights. Ask around!
