Anyone interview there this year?? What did you all think??

I've discovered this program is kind of harder to evaluate since the interview was sort of confrontational (2 attendings in each of 3 rooms) and more no-nonsense rapid fire than I anticipated..I'd be interested to know what the low-down is on the training there from anyone familiar with it

Thanks and good luck!!!

I thought that the program was good. If it was in a better location, it would be great. I remember those 2 on 1 interviews...quite frustrating, especially when one starts a question and the other starts another question before you fully get the chance to respond to the first one. I have heard that the training is good...I've heard this from their own med students, other med students, and faculty at other institutions. From what I heard, the residents there work harder than similar programs in CA because of the case load and lot of trauma (but non-operative..."baby sitting," as someone called it). I also got the impression that many of the residents work more hours than they actually log in. I believe most of the core faculty are SDA but most other staff are not...I'm not sure how this influences anything. I've hear that the teachings are good. I wish it was in a better place though...not quite sure how I will rank it as I have 5 more interviews left. What have you heard about the program?

I agree with most of what you said. I think the training is superb and the faculty is great; and even though some are SDA, the question was brought up about whether is has any impact on training and the answer was no. In terms of trauma, only the universtiy center is Level I not that it means there is no trauma at the other sites but like you said most of trauma is inclined towards non-operative management and will continue to move in that direction (splenic lacs...etc). I think the residents are happy there but may be a bit overwhlemed with the workload. I believe I'm going to rank it quite high..
