They change the dexterity format, no more wax carving, bending wires and gypsum carving. The new dexterity test is clinical oriented. They asked you to do MO class II amalgam, PFM, and Gold full crown preparations. All of them are on molar teeth and 2 of them are in upper region. You do the preparation on mannequin that mounted into the dental chair. There is no further instruction or guidance on how you should prepare the crown or cavity class II. Try to use your experience and judgment to do the best preparation. The dexterity test is not in the laboratory, but held on IDP clinic that you will work with the patients - if got accepted!. They have two main clinics, the one on left side of the prince hall is for regular student. IDP clinic is on the right side. All instruments are provided; high speed, low speed, burs, matrix, wedge, suction, enamel chisel, probe, etc. They also have technicians that will assist you if your handpiece or others instruments are not working properly or if you need additional burs or instruments. I have no idea if you can bring your own burs. But, most of us didn't bring anything. We are the first batch on new dexterity format. You have ample of time doing the prep. Just relax. They gave you 4 hours for all three assignments. The admission assistant told us the test wouldnt be grade, the committee members just want to know how far you remember your clinical experiences. May be is the way to calm down panic people like us. The stress level was a little high for me at the beginning but it quickly went down to 0 later on
it is very relax environment. You will feel like working in the clinic environment. Overall, I feel I did pretty good, not perfect, but it was my first clinical dexterity test and I need to practice and learn more to improve myself.
The chances get into there, based on the capacity of the IDP clinic. I think either 1/4 - if the students share a cubical or 1/8 - if every student get their own cubical.
Hope my 2 cents helps. All the best! good luck!
