Hey Guys,

Just got an interview call for the interview at Loma Linda, Interview is on 5th of October... I wont be going for the interview most probably, as i am already been selected at tufts.... Good luck to all who are waiting...I got the letter by usps... Stats i have already posted.......
 
It is funny...

When I started a thread about LLU last year, there was a lot of interest and many fellow applicants were showing enthusiasm.

LLU is a great and cheap school located in a safe and not so expensive area in Southern California.

The clinical part of the interview is very important :luck:


I gotta go back to study, we have finals next week, ciao~
 
i have been invited to llu on october 5, I donot have a manikin to practice so can anybody give me advice plzzzzzzzz?

Got interview call from LLU, on Oct 5th. I heard that they won't reveal any information about Dexterity test,I am confused what to prepare? Please provide some information if somebody knows.

congrates, how did you get your invitation for interview? By ups or regular mail. Do they tell status on phone because I called them today and they said the letter to you was posted last week and you will get it next week, and the lady didn;t tell me whether that letter is positive or negative. Did anybody get rejection letters?. Please tell your stat those who have been invited so far please. Thanks

i was wondering the same thing. did people first find out on AADSAS? or was a letter the first place where an interview was extended? i called today and a letter was mailed out on Aug. 5th to me but never made it so its being re-sent. i am assuming its a rejection but one never knows.
 
Listen...by some clay...practice carving different shapes (by reduction)...you are going to demonstrate that you are able to work with your hands in small places...sit back and relax...enjoy the haystacks (lunch)...if you get in, you will get a call and a letter...if you don't, then you will get a letter

Does one need modeling clay? and a carver?? if yes what kind?

can anybody please tell what they ask in the interview and in the written paper???
 
Written part is not an exam.... it is just a general essay topic.....
For bench exam . we had to do pfm on canine and lower 1 molar, class II on upper molar....There will be a lot of time to do these exercise... they will provide you with all the instrument gown and glasses..... There is nothing to worry about.... These were the things from last year... i am not sure if the bench exam will be the same this year

Hi Usdds,

I got the letter last wk in regular mail . you can call Cindy and ask about your status, she may help you. she is very good. don't worry, you will get it....

Hi Tufts boy,

Congrats. sorry, last year exam was different. It was class II and PMF on lower molars, & jacket crown on upper ant. Thats what I heard.Did you attend the last year's interview? I called Cindy, she told every time they change exam.So it is a surprise to everyone.

Can you please let us know how much time for each exercise and also can you please elaborate about essay.. what is that related to?
Please help us.

Thats something... atleast our batch on Oct14th 2007, had to do class II MO on tooth no 14 , i suppose that is on the upper arch.....you will have 4 hours to do all the exercise... but it might change this year.... also pfm on canine which is an anterior tooth..... I dont know who else has given you other information, the essay is the first thing you will have to do just before you are interviewed, it will be topic like why dentistry, what will you do with dentistry in future.. one cannot actually prepare for it , and the topics are easy believe me..... if you guys doubt me i will stop replying on this thread, i was just trying to help.....
 
Just wondering...does everyone gets an interview that applies????
From previous posts its seems like the school interviews 80. This year it seems like oct 5 is the only date, so that means 40 will to the clinical exam in the morning, while the other 40 interview than switch in the afternoon.
 
The bench exam was held in the IDP clinic last year.. we were 20 of us for the bench exam at a session... I think that is the max. people that clinic can accommodate....I guess chances for acceptance is higher this year as only one day of the interview has been announced till now...

Hey, Thanks for the information. same day 2 of my friends attended last yrs interview at LLU. they had different exercises.May be different batches with different exams... so please don't mind. we all need your help... keep posting.

Ya, I got an interview call today. Actually, Iwas expecting a rejection letter because I called them on wednesday and they said a letter has been sent to you but she did'nt tell me about the contents of the letter, so I was thinking, it will be a rejection letter. What,s next now? Thank God at least I got an interview letter. I am praying for everybody. Thank God and God bless everybody.

Congrates to you. How did you know that I would get an interview letter. I really got one. Thank God at least an interview letter. How are you going to prepare for the dexterity test. I am wondering without any clue, how can we prepare?. Do you have any idea, how many applicants they are going to call for an interview?. Are you from US?
 
I also got an interview invitation by mail this week. Mine is also on October 5th. I guess that makes 7 of us. I was reading other threads and it seems like the only way to prepare for the dexterity test is to practice amalgam and crowns preps. I am trying to buy some plastic teeth so I can practice but I can't find them. Does anyone know what they are called here in the US or where I can find them?

congrats usdds, They invited around 65 students. this year they have 24 seats for IDP program. we will wait and c who are those 24 lucky ppl.

You can order typodont teeth from UCLA student store, UOP student store, or from www.columbiadentoform.com. I think most schools use the Columbia typodont for their skill test

Guys, please if you have questions about the interview, refer to the previous thread of last year, it is all there, and any change in the interview will most likely be confidential and slight if any...

I have a strong feeling it is going to be the same as last year, they have changed their selection criteria last year, it is more about clinical skill now!

If you know how to do class II, crown cutting etc and you stick to bench and wreb criteria, then you will be fine...

It is going to be survival for the fittest. Of course part I, II are important, and so is TOEFL, but this will not get you in if you suck at clinical.

As for the curriculum, our first quarter was the most intense, this quarter is less difficult but not easy, next quarter will be in clinics.

The best thing about LLU is clinical experience, it is the international dental program in which you need to spend only 6 month before you hit clinic, there is no program like it. You get out of school ready to rock!

In the clinical exam, just chill and don't freak out,remember that others are as nervous as you are. gradually cut the tooth and make sure you don't nick the other teeth. You are a dentist and you are supposed to know how to do that stuff!

hello everyone
i got an interview call as well for the 5th oct. how is everyone preparing for the dexterity test. is anyone planning to take any coaching ? pls help how do we prepare.
did u all schedule ur interview already? i mean they give us an option as to when do we want to be interviewed (morning or afternoon) and the other session will be the dexterity. if there is a capacity of 20 in the clinic, i wonder how many batches they might have. cos they said the dexterity test will be for 4 hrs.

I wont be coming for the interview so all you guys your chance of acceptance has just increased a bit....

The People in LLU are very friendly and sweet....I was interviewed by Dr Fred C. Kasischke
He is a very nice person..
You do not have to worry much about the bench exam... the staff in the clinic are very good.. I do not think the bench exam will change by much..But be prepared for surprise for your bench exam... no one knows what they will change... You have tons of time to do the exercise.....and there is nothing new, we have all done these preparations in our dental life.... Just do not nick the adjacent tooth and take care of the gingiva.. which will be in rubber........concentrate during preparation and do it well, as this is the only thing that will give you the acceptance......

i just received an invitation letter for the interview at Loma Linda on October 5th. I guess this makes me the 7th candidate ....
 
I was accepted at UIC so I will be canceling my interview on October 5th!
Someone else will be getting a call! Good luck to you guys!!

can u please tell us what made u not accepted last year at LLU?
please dont misunderstand me.
i just want to know what we should keep in mind and that should not make the same mistake.
 
First thing I was waitlisted..there, for my luck not many gave up their seat I guess....
Second, no individual knows why one was not selected... the colleges call you for interview because they like you.. and after the interview it is upto them.
Third i am an indian... which makes the competition tough, since 80% of the people are indians at any interview...
Fourth is the thing i do not want to discuss here.... this is the problem I have seen in some schools... you will learn about it as you go through the interview cycle at various schools.... and it is this thing where TUFTS is different from others... and this is one of the reason of me liking TUFTS........

So you see these are the things which are not under you control.....
Just do the bench exam well... and leave the rest to LLU admission committee and God...

We are initially paying a total of 155k for 2 years, it is 27k first quarter, and 17 each following quarter.

They are giving us small refunds when some tools are not being given new...etc
 
Thanks a lot for reply,btw,I got accepted to La salle univeristy in mexico, but I hope I can get into loma linda as I live about 45 miles from the university, do u ve any idea if they r gonna ask dental questions like from part 2 NDBE ?
 
what kind of typodont, they use for dexterity test. I mean operative or fixed one ( columbian). Is it on menikin .Please help Samyred, in detail. We would really appreciate your help.
