Any longboarders out there? If so what do you ride?

Ever get the question from an interviewer, "So uhhhh what IS a longboard? Is that kind of like a skateboard?"

-Flexdex Slalom 30v, Seismic 150s (30/45), and 3dm Avalon wheels
-Insect Mosquito 38", RII-180s, P-Tang wheels (Orangatang purple Durians)

I love boarding! It's a ton of fun and makes getting to class so much quicker (our campus is board-friendly). Right now I've just got a basic Sector 9 board... nothing fancy. I'd really like to get a Loaded Dervish though. My board is pretty big (I think it's a 42"), so I definitely want to get something that's a little more maneuverable. If anyone has one or knows someone who does - share what you've heard!

Ah, I started on an s9 too. My first was the 46" Bomb-Hills-Not-Countries, RII-180 (42*)s, with Abec11 81a Flashbacks. It was actually a pretty good board for learning and sliding on.

If youre lookin for a more maneuverable all-around board, look in to flexdex boards. Their boards are virtually indestructable and insured for life. Most of them are fiberglass composite but they also make 5ply maple decks. One of my buddies has the 36" Flexdex Mantis with Randall 150s and BigZigs. AWESOME board, especially for dodging people/cars/busses on the way to class.

Also, look in to Fiberflex. For a while I was riding a fiberflex 38" pintail with Seismics and Flashbacks. Very good all-around board, very agile but also very stable. The only thing I didn't like it for was bumpy pavement, because the flex would absorb lots of speed when going over really bumpy pavement.

Well they might ask the question because they may be familiar with the different types of long-boards. There's long-boards in surfing, snowboarding, and skateboarding. I live 2 miles from the beach, so if you would have told me that you like long-boarding I would have pictured you on waves and not on pavement.

I have a Landyachtz. I love it! Boarding is a very quick way to get to class.

Where I'm from a longboards are what old folks surf on 😉

I skate (street) almost everyday but one thing I never got about longboards; what do you do when you wanna get up on a curb? like I love how stable and fast you can ride a longboard, but after skating for so many years I could never ride a board that I couldn't ollie..

fwiw a ton of people at my school come to class on longboards.

I ride a 46in sector 9 all stock. I still have a few years until I start interviewing but I'm pretty sure it will come up because its a contributing factor to why I want to pursue medicine. I was almost killed on it bombing a hill 30+ mph. Subdural hematoma and fractured clavicle. The whole trama experience really sparked my interest in medicine 🙂

longboard is the wrong board.

edit: also, the shortened verb of skatboarding is skating. boarding is what you do to a plane. or boat. juss sayin..

Hey bro, I think it's funny when bros suck at boarding or thinking and eat **** because they were trying to broboard the morning after it snowed. Just walk, bro.

/kidding, albeit a bit patronizing.

a hidden beauty of skating is its ability to keep one humble... When you eat **** on a weekly basis, you can't take yourself too seriously. if you fall trying some trick in front of the ladies, that's the great thing about skating, keep yourself humble, pick up the board and stomp in next time. PROGRESSION. name of the game..

skating gets a bad rap cause it's hard as **** and nobody wants to put in the effort.. you look like an idiot at first but if you skate a lot for a long time you can get that feeling whenever you want. i surf and snowboard as much as possible too but those are like an hour's drive away, I can get stoked any time by walking outside my apt and skating..

and if you don't get what i'm sayin damn I feel sorry fo yo ass cause landing that big gap, catching an overhead tube, and riding some backcountry pow are the best things in life.. PEACE

i longboard. only have stock 46' sector 9 as well.

I never could get into long boarding.

I skated a fair amount in middle / early high school (never got that good, kickflipping a 4 stair was my crowning achievement). Then in highschool I transitioned into mostly surfing and rock climbing. Longboarding just always felt so boring to me, also i think people look ridiculous when they sit in a lecture hall with a massive skateboard next to them.

skateboarding>longboarding

in terms of getting the chicks

i've rarely met chicks that think a long board is cool
(but all the females im attracted to are preppy or greek haha)
