I've been using MSAR and SDN feedback to build a school list. However, I am definitely not going to be able to send out 30 top notch secondaries, for money and time reasons. It seems the "metrics" GPA, MCAT, etc have gotten me this far but I'm looking to cut down my school list further. I have seen people claim that they look at school's mission to see which schools missions they "align" with, but other than the obivous (i.e. giving minorities chances) I am having a hard time getting any information from mission statements. It seems to me that every school's statement is the same just worded differently. Any help deciphering these?

Extra thought should be given to the various curriculum and grading styles (problem-based learning/lecture+ exams, ABCDF vs. pass/fail, etc. etc.). I think that has a tremendous role in the success you will have in medical school. Also, as @gonnif mentions above, the type of setting you will be living in plays a big role. Think about where the schools are located and see if that helps swing your opinion in applying to that program.

Correct my ignorance if applied. The OP requires assistance in narrowing a list of thirty(ish) schools with the primary goal of matriculation and protecting that goal while reducing secondary submissions. The advice above seeks to help the OP select on the merits of personal preference and not on yield. This advice would be most useful if deciding which acceptance (of multiple) to maintain and perhaps not as useful in the OP's situation.
