Yes, FA for step II is enough. Keys to passing the exam: be humanistic, tell patients "i'm sorry about your problem", "sorry about what happened", "i'll try to help you feel better", ask about family, occupation, ask follow up questions about family like "how many kids do you have?" "how old"? "i'm sorry about your mother suffering a stroke", "how many years were you a teacher?" "did u enjoy it a lot", questions like that. SHOW THAT YOU CARE AND HAVE A GENUINE INTEREST!
Another key is being in there at least until the 2 minute warning. DON'T come out in 8 or 9 minutes! Do the H&P and DO THE PHYSICAL EXAM UNTIL the 2 minute warning! (as much as you need). 2 minutes is more than enough to give your assessment and plan.
When you do OMM, talk to the patient and tell them what you are doing!!! diagnose, treat and recheck!!!!
After you do the H&P, wash your hands and while washing them, small chat with the patient about occupation, family, weather, anything that shows you are interested in them.
For diagnosis, list anything that causes a problem such as for chest pain: Costochondritis, GERD, MI, PE, Angina, Aortic Dissection, CHF, Pneumonia, etc. Do special tests when needed such as psoas test, murphy's sign, brudzinski sign, ober test, etc.
MOST IMPORTANTLY, BE CALM AND RELAX, DON'T STUTTER, HAVE CONFIDENCE LIKE YOU KNOW WHAT YOU ARE DOING!
