Hey everyone,

I am at a lost right now... I have a B.S in Biology and M.S in Kinesiology. I initially wanted to go to medical school but around junior year of undergrad I realized that was a little out of my reach(GPA not the greatest). After undergrad, I became more interested in AT/PT/PA programs but the program w/o a wait list that was available was Kinesiology(should have been patient). Outside of 2 different "1 semester term" internships, i don't have any experience in the health field. Now, I'm 28y/o and have work experience in Admin Assist. and want to get into the health field(which i should have done a long time ago). I was thinking about the PTA program so I can get into the field and get paid experience then possibly applying to the DPT program. When talking about this plan, most would say "just apply for the PT program or PA". (Note: I did not take OChem 2 or Phys 2) and i know those are requirements for both. Honestly just tired of jumping from Admin job to Admin job waisting time only to come back to this state of mind and want to be in a career that i love. Any suggestions???

Organic Chemistry is not a pre-req for PT.

Suggestions: shadow a PTA, a PT and a PA to find out which one you really like. Don't rush, if you want to be in career you can stick with for the next 20-30 years.

I don't advise the PTA route for anyone who is saying "I'm interested in PT". They are separate (though related) fields. Despite the 1 or 2 posts you can dig up on this board, I'm not convinced there is any admission preference for a PTA to a apply to PT school. Going to school for 2 years just to get paid experience to apply to PT school is a waste. You can become a tech or aide now which should be similar pay to admin jobs. That will give you both the shadowing experience and put some $ in your pocket.

Why not sign up for Physics 2. Redo any other courses where your grades are a little low and then shadow as much as possible. If you get down to it, you could be ready to apply as soon as next summer.

Many PTs have travelled this path than care to admit. Partially the reason they get white coats.

suggestions: stop going to school and stay away from physical therapy

Only go to PT school if you want to be a PT. If what you actually want is to be a physician, do what you have to do to get in to medical school.

P.S.: Statistically, getting into PT school is not significantly easier than medical school.

I think at this point in your life, assuming $100k+ of debt, plus not working for three years, is not a good idea. Develop your schools in other ways. I would try to go into sales. It's a great skill to learn and it can be lucrative.
