Looking for direction.

First off, don't even consider going back to school until you get your depression under control. If you do, you will seriously shoot yourself in the foot. If you need to, take a semester off while you work on this. This will also give you some time to boost your ECs, like volunteering or shadowing.

Secondly, you have two years left before you graduate. Get good grades from here on out. You should probably not apply to med school until your Sr year considering the bad semester you just had. You need that extra years worth of good grades. This means you will have a year off between graduating and matriculating, but it's better than trying to rush things and screwing everything up.

If you are still experiencing depression, get it treated professionally. Your medical problem should be your first priority. You are young and have plenty of time to fix your GPA.

I did not do so well this year. I finished the year with crippling depression and a few bad courses with an overall GPA of 2.0. I am going to be a junior this coming year and I wonder if I should continue my goals towards being an M.D. Before during my Freshman year I had a cumulative GPA of 3.3 so maybe I should just retake the courses I did poorly in and consider DO schools. For those experience members out there, what advice would you give to a person in my position?

Get your depression treated and under control. If getting depressed makes your GPA crash, it will destroy your year(s) in medical school.
