call up local hospitals that you are looking to shadow in ...ask them how you can get a listing of doctors that practice there and what area they practice in. if the first person cant give it to you ask them who they think might be able to ...go through the maze and get your list...look for d.os in there...do a couple of hospitals and you will find plenty. look up the match list for nycom..or look up its affiliates....there are always d.o at those hospitals ..do the work, its more satisfying to know you came up with the ways to deal with a problem that you have...if people just go and tell you, you wont ever know how to do it for yourself. Internet isnt going to get you as far as a way that is better, such as the ways i just mentioned. you will get better results if you try to do something in the best way possible, not the only way you know because usually the way you know isnt the best way, or else you wouldnt be in the jam. we are very dependent on the internet and run to it as soon as we need to do something and then think there is no other way if internet cant do it..its a very good place, but not when the information isnt there. trust me, do some digging and really look at how to get what you want done.
I got my do by doing this..and he was more willing to help me because he knew i went through a lot to get to him..he was a fellow and was listed nowhere...i got his name off the list of new fellows outside the gi dept in coney island hospital..thats the only place he was listed. he was awesome and i couldnt have gotten a better letter. his wife is a nycom grad who is at mimonadies (an affiliate....im sure she rotated there and got her residencey too...like i said look at the affiliate hospitals)
Also remember, those you find listed easily will also be those how have been found easily in the past and have been solicited to write countless letters for countless reasons for countless people...if you want a really unique letter, from someone that hasnt been acosted by premeds for the last however many years, try to get someone who isnt as easy to get to.
i dont mean to be harsh..but i just find that sometimes if you try a little more and in a few more ways that include you having to go out and take the train or drive around ect, you would be the one being benifited. Exhausting the internet is no significant accomplishment, exhaust YOUR ideas and abilities fully and then ask for ideas from others..not just a list of people they worked to find, contact, get to know ect. by doing a little more then exhausting the internet.
