Hi,
I was wondering if someone could give me any advice on writing a personal statement. I am horrible at writing and English is my second language. I don't know where to start and what to write about and how to make it all sound good! Thank you very much in advance!🙂

You are writing in the the wrong forum. You should try the mentor forum, and even then, you are well out of cycle (i.e. you should keep updating this letter, and making a strong push in a couple of months-maybe Feb/Mar, and keep at it, so that you are ready to apply by June 1. This presupposes that you have everything else complete-pre-reqs, MCAT, LORs, E.C. by June 1

Keep trying

Thanks for the advice. I am actually still in the process of finishing up my pre-reqs. I just wanted to start the process of writing a personal statement early, because I know it will be difficult for me to express myself on paper.

First, determine what is behind your drive to go into medicine and if there is a unique event that lead to that. If yes, write about that. If not, maybe focus on a couple of things that motivate you. Just write a rough draft and have your friends read it. Do they get a sense of who you are by reading your PS? Then listen to their suggestions and keep on improving. I had to do many edits to mine. I sent it to friends in science, business and other fields. That way, they all had different opinions on what was missing from it.
Try not to take the comments too personally. They want the best for you.
English is my second language also. Sometimes, that can be an advantage because you are more likely to be critical of yourself and pay more attention to grammar.
