I'm looking for weak spots in my medical school app and any advice to make it stronger. Feel free to deconstruct all you want.

I haven't taken the MCAT yet, I'm finishing up the end of my sophomore year.
I'm volunteering at the local ER, should have 150 hours by app time.
I'm starting to shadow some physicians, hopefully I'll have between 50-100 hours.
No research
Should be able to obtain some strong LOR's
I know it helps but by no means guarantees a medical school spot but I was an Infantry Sniper in the Army for 5 years. I've been to Afghanistan, Iraq and received a purple heart for not moving fast enough and getting shot. I was also a Federal Agent for 6 years transporting Nuclear weapons. Top secret security clearance and all that good stuff.
Married with 3 kids and I own/operate a 20 acre sheep farm.
I'm also the treasurer at my church and help with raising money for underprivileged locals to afford procedures insurance won't pay for.

I've got more to add but I feel like these are the major points. Let me know how I can make this more appealing. I'm looking to attend University of Kentucky or University of Louisville. Thanks in advance.

Application / plan looks solid currently. I might do a little bit of research (maybe a semester or a summer) unless you have absolutely 0 interest; even at schools like Kentucky, the majority of applicants have at least some research experience. Everything else looks solid. Come back with an MCAT and we can help you come up with a school list.

Army Sniper/Purple Heart/Federal Agent/Sheep Farmer. Might link this thread when people ask what constitutes extraordinary life experiences.

You could probably get a below average MCAT (but aim high!) and still be golden.

Thanks for the replies, I'll look in to what kind of research opportunities my school offers. Maybe I can score some kind of part time gig.

If you are too busy now or need to focus on MCAT (which is more important), than waiting until after take the MCAT and/or submit your app is not a horrible idea. Especially if you've finished prereqs or most of your other required classes by the time you submit your app, taking a lighter course load during your senior year to do research or doing research the summer you submit your app may work out nicely (anticipated research hours can be put on app and makes for nice updates) .

Your're rock solid, especial with the two KY schools and states surrounding.

And many thanks for your service to your country. Hoooahh!

Due to normal human squeamishness, I'd play down the sniper business.

I didn't realize this was an option, I'll have all my pre-reqs done before I apply. I will definitely look more into this and talk to my advisor about it. Thank you very much this is great advice.

Ha! That's a good point and thanks for your support!
