Hi All,

I passed my Pharmacy board exam and got license two weeks back. I am now licensed in Georgia. Always thought passing NAPLEX,LAW would be end of struggle but now there is another big "project", Jobhunt.
Applied everywhere in Atlanta but seems like all pharmacies either have hiring freeze or they want someone experienced.
I will really appreciate if anyone from GA could help me or guide me with the job search in Georgia.

Thanks

You just started to look for a job now? Dude, it's almost September. Searching for a job and eventually getting the one you want will take at least a few weeks...if not months. Are you only willing to live in ATL or will you relocate? There are still jobs available elsewhere, but you have to start making some (or a lot of) calls/emails.

isn't this about the time where P4's should start looking for jobs?

See, all your classmates had jobs lined up in May. Now don't you look foolish. Of course, it's too late for that now. You're going to have to be patient and apply to a lot of places. Good luck. But to current P4s, let that be a lesson.

Hi
I did my intern hours at kroger, I am still with kroger as intern but since they have hiring freeze they told me to look somewhere else. I called and emailed almost all the chains. My husband has permanent job here so I cannot relocate but I am willing to drive upto 1 hour in GA.

Mcdonalds is hiring. So is Burger King. However, there are a lot of applicants...

Only work for Rite Aid if you have no other choice whatsoever. I hope I'm not going to end up there when I graduate (a possibility as I'm interning there now).

I had a few classmates who hadn't started job hunting as of graduation because their non-pharmacy SO was also graduating, and they would end up wherever the SO did.

The only one in our class who did not have a job for a reason other than this was a high school friend of my sister's who worked as a tech at the large university hospital in our city, and they would not sign her on as a pharmacist because of some things she did while in school (you know, the whole "good moral character" thing). She once interviewed for a job somewhere else, and as they were preparing to offer her the job, she took out a yo-yo and started playing with it. 😕 Her sister and BIL are pharmacists, and they opened their own business in part so she could have a job.

A few years ago, my mom saw her at the grocery store with her mother AND HER BABY. 😱 She had returned to her hometown and was married and working at a hospital there. Scary. I wonder if her husband knows how she REALLY put herself through school.

There was a woman 2 years ahead of me who had been a Walgreens tech for 8 years and they would not sign her on as a pharmacist either. I met her at a convention, and the reason why was obvious in a very short time: She was a really bad alcoholic. She also graduated 2nd in the class; go figure.

p.s. I'm competing for that St. Louis job, folks.

Not saying that all Rite Aids are this way, but in 2002 I was vacationing in the Niagara Falls area and spent a night in Rochester, NY. I went to the Rite Aid across the street from my hotel on a Sunday afternoon to get some things, and of course stopped by the pharmacy. They had some things that I wanted to photograph, because we didn't carry them and one of my colleagues didn't think they existed, and asked the pharmacist if I could do that. She gave me permission, and then told me that the district manager, a woman under 30 years old, had declared from on high that all the Rite Aids in her little queendom could have ONE PHARMACIST and ONE TECHNICIAN on duty at a time, no matter what the store volume. When the PM people arrived, the AM people had to leave no matter how busy it was, etc. or else.

What did I want to photograph? They had a glass case with home drug test kits, home cholesterol kits, and a home AIDS test kit.

So when I look for jobs as a pharmacist, should I just stay away from chains?

Or are stores in some regions provided with better staffing?

4000th post! woot! lol

Crazybob, it depends on the chain. Target's not bad to work for if you want retail, and if you are in the Midwest, Hy-Vee is usually a good option too. Kmart stores usually aren't very high volume either.

Target would be my first choice but they have extensive interviewing....

only one person from my class got hired there.

I know one pharmacist from each Target store around here, but those stores are always well-staffed, so that probably won't be helping me much.

What do you mean by extensive interviewing?

She had mutiplie interviews and some were quite involved.....they look for a certain personality.....

dont know much more than what I heard from second hand...
