There are some old references from over ten years ago on the majority of prescriptions being from non-psychiatrists but I'm having trouble tracking down anything more recent, especially as a lot of the prescribing landscape has changed.

Also, the old statement of 55% of psychiatrists are >55 is nearly ten years old. I remember a year or two ago seeing an updated number saying 60% >60 but can't seem to find that reference, either.

Thanks for the help.

the over 55 comes from AAMC data which charts how many physicians in each specialty are over 55. In psychiatry, the last available data is from 2015, which shows 60.4% psychiatrists now over 55. One thing to point out is this figure is for active physicians, and psychiatrists are more likely to practice into advanced age (even though imho a lot of these people should have their licenses taken away from them) which somewhat skews the numbers, but even so it is clear psychiatry is an ageing specialty. Only preventive medicine, pulm and anatomic pathology is more crumbly! for reference 43% of all active physicians are over 55.

I haven't used it in a while but ProPublica (if I recall correctly), I believe lists out top prescribed drugs by specialty by state.

I think it only covers Medicare recipients, but it's still interesting data.
