Hello Everyone and thank you for your time of reviewing my post.

I am 24 years old and have had several experiences that has gotten me to this point. I am now a 5th year senior . I was in the army reserves for a while and this caused some missed college time form hurricane katrina among other things as well.

My story is I am about to graduate with a ~3.3 or 3.4 gpa I am guessing my sGPA will be similar. I have been forced to work throughout my college career and have moved through the ranks fairly quickly . I am currently a General Manager for corporate Tmobile. Throughout College I have had to work a great deal ~ 45-50 hours per week and have looked over a few stores. While here I have also stayed in school Full time as a Biology major with a emphasis on Microbiology and immunology. I am also engaged so I juggle a family life, work life, and alot of studying for college.

Outside of Work I still manage to volunteer at childrens hospital and a major interest for myself is HIV/ AIDS which I found out my sophomore year of college a family member passed away from this illness which has inspired myself to pursue a career in medicine . As part of volunteering I am also Licensed through the state for HIV/AIDS testing so I also do this on the side.

My university actually has a MD program at it so I hope to apply here , especially because my fiance is a RN,BSN at a local hospital and both our families are here as well. I am willing to apply to DO if it is a must, however I have also looked at the new program with Oshner medical facilities in louisiana and Queensland australia . What it comes down to is I will do what ever it takes to become a Doc.

My questions are I have read on several Medical school websites that they consider work experience while looking at GPA. What are peoples thoughts on my overall stats and experiences ? Do I have a shot? I am currently in princeton review prep course and shooting for a 28-32 of course or higher. I have several awards for leadership and recognitions as well form the Army and as a Manager . I will have fairly strong letters also from my state AIDS clinic and a few docs involved also.

With the interpersonal communication skills that I have developed from coaching my peers and the experience I have gained with people throughout my course of work I am planning on knocking the interviews out of the park. Now my struggle is getting the interviews.

What is everyones thoughts?

Thank you for your time

A GPA of 3.4ish is below the average for those entering DO med school (3.48) and below the mean for accepted MD candidates of 3.66. But a sufficiently strong MCAT score can compensate. It is also very helpful to end your college years with a rising GPA trend, especially in the sciences to prove to adcomms you have what it takes to excel in their science-intense curriculum. Consider cutting your work hours if necessary for this last push until graduation so you can demonstrate the ability to earn great grades.

For you it will be important to use the Secondary essays to discuss the challenges of maintaining your grades in the face of heavy work hours and deployments that interrupted class progress, so that will be taken into account. Your will further list these activities in the Experiences section. Your leadership and teamwork skills look to be strong. You have clinical experience of unspecified duration and number of hours. Any plans for shadowing (essential, IMO)? Research (desirable, but not essential)? Your nonmedical community service in helping Katrina victims is helpful. You've probably done teaching as a manager when you get a new employee.

Yes I actually do daily coaching to associates as well as have devised several training's for the entire market and division. I also forgot to mention that I was an undergraduate teaching assistant for a human dissection course and Anatomy labs. Being that my state school has a medical school the undergrads get to work with the cadavers so I aided the Graduate teacher in the Labs. This was for a full year of helping teach undergrads. I do not have any research however a moderate amount of Volunteer hours and shadowing.

Unfortunately, I am not in a position to lower my work load until I am accepted to medical school .I am a salary employee.

Additional Thoughts and comments?

Thank you for your time.
