looking to do EMG moonlighting

Hi , my current fellowship does not have alot of EMG experience and I am looking to get some experience, cause my job is going to require EMGs post fellowship, where should I look to find moonlighting opportunities to get back into the saddle with doing EMGs.

There really aren't any moonlighting opportunities because EMG is a nice billable procedure for both neurology and PM&R, why outsource it to someone else? A morning of EMG's pays more than a morning in clinic.

If you have any EMG's at all built in to your fellowship, try to squeeze extra studies out of them. Otherwise start talking to PM&R attendings at your fellowship location, see if anyone can hook you up.

There are plenty of unscrupulous chiropractors and PCP's that would hire you out to bill expensive diagnostic testing to confirm or refute PN, CTS, radic.

If you offered your services, there would be takers. And you would bear responsibility for ensuring billing was appropriate and that medical necessity was met. I have never reviewed a case when the EMG/NCV was appropriate in this setting.

OK well there won't be many reputable EMG moonlighting opportunities 😉

I don't consider the hand held crap that gets sent to a computer in Boston for "diagnosis" to be EMG. Even my town has a running ad to hire PM&R or Neurology to do just this. Probably run by a chiro or naturopath from out of state.

thanks everyone, I am just worried after a year of not doing too many EMGs I might be a bit rusty, but hopefully it will come back quick, like riding a bike

actually does anyone recommend a good review course, Mayo I heard is very Neurology oriented, was looking for something more PMR oriented

RIC's course is definately PM&R-oriented.

If you are practicing electrodiagnostic medicine there is no difference between a PM&R focus and a Neurology focus. Go to an AANEM meeting, and unless you ask, you have no idea who is a Neurologist and who is PM&R.

Anybody know anything about an upcoming RIC EMG course? I wasn't able to find anything online about it. Looks like in prior years it was in March, but I didn't see anything on the RIC website. Thanks!
