to all the veterans in this forum,

i'm currently in the middle of my ophthalmology rotation at a large institution and have a couple potential LORs lined up (big-wigs). Seeing as how it's April and we haven't even registered for the sfmatch yet, when is the best time to approach them for a LOR?

Is there a tactful way of doing it? What else do I include besides a CV and personal statement?

If it's recommended to wait until later, what can I do in the interim so they don't forget about me?
Thanks.

And for all those taking the OKAPs, you're in my prayers 👍

but from someone who matched this past year, ask them now! You will be suprised at how long it can take for them to write letters for you...even though they have the best intentions.

Just ask! You are not the 1st to ask them for a letter, and will not be the last! They understand and expect it. 😀 Yes, take your CV and personal statement or promise to have it to them by a certain date. Think of your application like a story: Your LORs should highlight some or many of your accomplishments that are mentioned in your CV or personal statement.

I think you are doing yourself a favor by thinking about this stuff now vs. July/August.

Good luck!
