Hey guys!

Part of my ECs are that I've been on medical related "mission" trips to Nicarauga, and I'm going down for another one this January (we do total hips and total knees for the people down there, we get medical comapnies in the US to donate $$ or equipment, and go do the surgeries down there at a hosptial in Granada.)

I think a great thing would be to get the doctor we work with down there to write a LOR. The problem is mailing things back and forth from Nicaragua is near impossible. We find it's cheaper to actually buy a plane ticket and fly to Nicaragua than to even ship things, because the things we ship always come back to us without arrivng at their destination.

So, if I have the doctor down there write a LOR, how can I get it back to America and keep it authentic? And for my case, I'd probably need three or so from him. Should we just risk mailing it? Or is there anyway he can seal them in an envelope and then give them to me?

So, I guess I'm asking the way to keep it the most authentic.

Thanks,
Bobby

I carried a letter on my own once, and my school accepted it as long as the professor had signed his name across the seal of the envelope (so that it was pretty obvious I hadn't opened it).

This may be a silly question but do they have access to a computer with with internet? They could email to the schools.

All you need is a sealed envelope with the doctor's signiture across the flap with you having signed a waiver not to look at it inside the envelope.

I would have hime write across the outside.... I have sealed this envelope myself and am signing the flap to verify I did the sealing myself.

Hey, I dealt with a similar situation when i wanted the doctors at the hospital I worked at in Senegal to write me a LOR. My undergrad school required that I either have the docs mail a sealed envelope with the letter directly to them. Well, letters take forever to get from Africa to the states so I asked if I could have the doc fax the letter to them and they said yes. If they have a fax machine down there then this would eliminate any of the hassels, bureaucratic BS, mail errors, etc involved in snail mail. Good luck!

Uhm have you guys ever checked the UPS or DHL websites? UPS says that between Nicaragua and the States it takes about 7-10 days.

I was about to say the same thing, when I had family in the Ivory Coast, West Africa, it usually took like 3-4days to send stuff using DHL, and it was very easy to track it online. DHL is in just about every country and after years of dealing with them, I can say they are quite efficient. 🙂

perhaps try faxing it? i don't know if they have that though in nicaragua?
