so - my counsel who is writing my committee letter and has had all my letters since May is seriously lagging. She promised me they would be sent out by June 25th and now she is telling me she will hopefully be done in a week or so. It's the first cycle almost over? I've been e-mailing her, but she keeps saying she is busy....wtf?!! Any suggestions of how I can get my letters in sooner than later?

I feel your pain. my school has had all of my letters since mid April and are saying they won't be able to submit my committee letter until the third week in August. I went to a small undergrad school, why is it taking so long?! 😡 I think they are more attune to needs of students applying to med school than dental school. they weren't even aware schools prefer the committee letter to be sent through AADSAS instead of directly to the schools. grrrrrr.

Most institutions that offer committee letters also allow you to bypass the committee evaluation and just have your letters sent in a packet with their office's letterhead rather than a committee letter, which is basically viewed the same as a committee packet. The only difference is there is no final evaluation by a committee or wait time. I have used this feature for two cycles now and it saves so much time. You can send as many letters as you want in the packet and it will still count as a committee packet. Contact your colleges and see if this option is available.

not much you can do. you can keep calling, but you might irritate them.

if you haven't already, i would write them a thank you note, and get it in ASAP. I have heard of cases where schools will put a copy of the thank you note in your file and send it with your LORs. makes you look mature/professional/considerate blah blah blah. cant hurt anyways. plus it reminds them to do your letter.
