A prof said he would write me a letter of rec. He is a science prof. I’ve met with him multiple times to remind him of it and he always says “yes of course I am working on it, I will have it done as soon as I can!”. My school does a committee packet and his letter is the only one I’m missing. It’s now the end of may and he still has not submitted. I sent an email to him last week, no response, and today I found out that he is out of the country due to his fathers death. My other two letters are from an ochem prof and a PI in the lab I am in. I am thinking of asking my hospice volunteer coordinator for One if I cannot get one from this prof, but I think getting one from this prof would look way better. Any suggestions on what to do? Should I email this prof in a week?

I would probably recommend you try your best to find another science LOR writer just in case this dude flakes. It sucks but it sounds like he's got a lot going on and it never hurts to have a backup letter. If you can see him in office hours when he gets back. I didn't really email any of my profs, saw them all in person and that seemed to do the trick a lot better than emailing them.
