Hey guys,

I am currently in the process of applying and was wondering what you thought of soliciting LOR from alumni? My father is a physician and many of our close family friends are also physicians who attended many of the same schools which I am applying to. Many of these family friends have offered to write LOR to their alma maters on my behalf. Do you guys think it would be a good idea to have these alumni write letters to their schools, or do you think this would seem a little desperate. I have heard from others that, like every profession, who you know is just as important as what you know when trying to get into med school. Also, $ talks in America today and I'm sure many of these family friends donate very generously to their alma maters each year, fwiw.

Ehh I wouldn't say so. Maybe if one of these family friends had a building named after them... I doubt the alumni relations office and the admissions office are ever really in cahoots
