I am not sure if I should call the MD schools I applying to for a better explanation, but I am not sure what do choose for my 3rd letter. I already have 2 strong letters from professors, but I some schools require a 3rd. I have a DO which is going to give me strong letter for the DO schools (I shadowed him 40-50 hours), but the most I have shadowed an MD was 5-10 hours, so I am don't think it is worth my time or theirs to ask. Has anyone asked admissions this before?

I would send the letter from the doctor that is the most famous/prestigious.

A letter from a DO is fine for allopathic schools. Just because their background is (subtly) different, doesn't mean their opinions aren't worth anything. They're still physicians and can hold faculty positions at MD schools.
