I have a question. I have been working as a legal assistant for the past three years and have accomplished a lot to greatly increase the efficiency of the small firm. Problem is that the attorney that i work for is married to my cousin, and is therefore a relative by marriage. I was hoping to get a letter from him because he is best able to articulate my work ethic and initiative, however i have read a number of posts that state that a LOR from a relative has a personal bias and is therefore strongly frowned upon. what to do what to do. thanks in advance for any suggestions/opinions.

I'd get a letter from one of your other co-workers. I've heard rumblings that familiar LoRs are basically ignored. My guess is that your cousin's husband (wife?) might be able to help someone else at the firm write you a letter.

Do you have the same last name?

Do you have the same last name?
no, we are actually separated by two last names --> for example : his last name is x, his wife (my cousin)'s last name is y, and my last name is z.
