I took 2 english classes in high school through Madonna University taught by my senior year high school english teacher (so I had him for 1 year of high school english, and 1 year of college english at the same time). I received college credit for them and will be using them for my med school prereqs. I don't remember what I got in the classes since they show up as T's on my Umich transcripts, but I think I got As . He is listed as part-time faculty at Madonna; he has a BA and an MFA from UPenn and Columbia respectively, but no PhD. Is it too risky asking him for a letter as my non-science req? I know for sure he would write me a great letter, I'm just not sure how much weight it would hold or look weird since it's not from the school I'll be receiving my degree from.

I think it sounds fine. The most important thing is that your letter writer knows you well and can write a good letter. I'd have them focus more on the college class, as that is the requirement for med schools.

Just ask them to mention in the letter that you received a college credit for that course too, so it'll clear up any confusion. It won't look weird if he writes a solid LOR for you. Good luck!

You might want to be careful - have you had much contact/experience with him since high school? If his only experience with you is that long ago, then it is probably not the best choice. Schools want to know who you are now, not who you were in high school

Hummm, that's a good point. When it comes to shove, another applicant may get an interview request instead of you just because their LOR is from a college professor who can speak of their college work. So if you decide to go with your HS teacher, you will have to make sure that he/she speaks of you as qualified/dedicated college student and not as a HS student (not so good). :luck:
