LOR got a year before the match

I am asking this question on behalf of my cousin who is doing his elective course at a hospital in the US.
He is planning to ehter the 2015 match, and he is doing his 2 month elective months at good hospitals.....now as he is getting his LOR very soon, he is afraid that the attending he is working with might forget about him and write a normal 'routine' LOR when next year comes and he asks her to upload it to ERAS......so the question is can he get a LOR now and he uploads it next year by himself? Or how can he assure she write a LOR that really reflects his performance and not a 'regular routine' LOR that is written for any student that asks for one?

Ask the attending to write the LOR now and then date, sign and upload it next year. The only potential downside to this is if the attending goes somewhere else into he next year or doesn't respond to his request next year. Unlikely, but not impossible.
