Hey so here is my problem. I am a junior and will be applying next summer and I just asked a professor for a LOR and he said all he needs is my CV and an address of where and when to send it..

I know a CV is like a resume but what exactly do I put in it?? and do I just get him to send the letter to me and I copy it and send it to all the schools when I start applying or what?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Can't give specifics on the CV because I've never written one. Your school should have a career development person or something like that who can help you write it.

As for the letter, the AADSAS website has a place where you submit your professors name and email and he will get an email directing him to a website where he attaches his letter into and it is electronically submitted from there.

You will get access to that when it opens for next years. Until then, he can write it whenever and save it on his computer until he can electronically submit it.

A resume and cover letter should do just fine. I'm sure your professor just wants some more information to pull from when writing your letter so it doesn't sound oh so generic. I am assuming you don't know the professor particularly well?

So what if he is retiring after this semester? Should I still just tell him to go ahead and write it and wait til next june to submit it to AADSAS?

eta. and I know the professor on a name to name basis. It is from a small biology class (20) that is lecture and lab and we are his only class and also I met him at the beginning of the year for an interview type situation where he asked me questions about my life and I let him know I would most likely ask him for a LOR at the end of the semester.

I just took the final and made a 96 and got an A in his class and asked him specifically if he would write me a "strong" letter and he replied saying he would and to repeat the word "strong" so I think he knows enough about me to give me a good one just wondering about this whole process. I had planned on starting my Personal Statement over Christmas break and appearantly I need to create a CV now as well lol

CV is just a academic resume, which places emphasis on the things you achieved in the university rather than your working experience. Just google for some examples.

When I requested my letter of rex, I put on my resume/ cv academic history, extracurricular, job, in addition I gave them personal statement and a unofficial copy of my DAT score( if available).

When my profs asked for a CV/resume, I gave them whatever I had, but made sure to include all of my extracurrics and volunteering activities, so they know what I like to do outside of schoolwork. I also listed a couple of bullet points worth of information for them to give them an idea of what I did for each activity. So if I listed I was treasurer for a club, I just included a couple of bullet points about what all I did...handling fundraising, bank meetings, w/e w/e. It'll also give them a better idea of who you are as a person, and what strengths you have and how you're a candidate with a diverse background and are well-rounded.

Also, if for some you think it'll be difficult for you to obtain the letter from your prof due to his retirement, look into www.interfolio.com

It'll help manage all of your LORs too, at a cheaper price than probably what your university offers (if your university is anything close to what mine was...)

Good luck!

Oh side note, I included EVERY thing possible. Extracurrics, jobs, volunteering (whether dental related or not). Just give him/her everything you've done so far, so your prof can pick and choose what stuff they think will be relevant in a LOR and will strengthen your app.

Sorry if I rambled, best of luck though! 🙂
