An actual friend of mine (not me, and no not "a friend(me)" submitted a LoR to his premed committee for the committee letter from a politician he did a lot of work under that was mentioned by name by the Mueller report. This mention connects him to some unethical (but not criminal) activity under the Trump Administration. Should my friend be worried?

Unless your friend was participating in this unethical activity, why should he be worried? Due process exists for a reason

LOL. It seemed like a good idea at the time to get a letter from an elected official or a person in a high level, appointed position until the person acquired a reputation you'd rather not be associated with. With any luck, the adcoms are too busy to read a 400 page report and remember the names of all the players. And that the name on the letter "registers" as familiar (and notorious) when it is read sometime this fall. At this point there isn't anything that can be done short of foregoing the committee letter (baby and bathwater situation) so just suck it up and hope for the best.

For the sake of curiosity, what's the beef with LUCOM?

they are a highly conservative Christian school which became a meme because of Liberty ("Liberty") University's insane draconian code of conduct (famously "Immorality" was banned in the code, "The Liberty Way") which was relaxed in 2015 to allow students to watch R-rated movies and women to show their knees. It was started by some hack fraud conman named Jerry Falwell to siphon money from the types of Evangelicals who think public schools are brainwashing children en-masse to become gay communists. The University also peddles pseudoscience encouraging students to be skeptical of evolution and teaches creationism in the science courses and in particular promotes young-earth creationism, a version of creationism essentially exclusive to an extremist sect of Southern Baptists in the U.S.

Big time yes
Thank you all for your help! I will make sure to steer clear when the time comes.

This thread made my day. Starting with the title to the “my friend, no not “my friend/me” to Liberty University
