Hello, i am a senior applying to med school in the summer 2010, and i want to start collecting LORs from the professors and whomever.
I had an interfolio account and it expires in 2 months- but i noticed that in aamc, they started with this LOR collecting system.
My question is, how and where can you store your LORs safely?
do you think that i should continue on renewing the interfolio? or start at AAMC?

and i heard from people that you can start your aamc application without submitting it this year but save it for next year? is this true?

i only hear very generic things about LOR but i never got a chance to fully understand how the system works.

Insights would be much appreciated! helpp!

Basically, AMCAS now collects and distributes LOR to most medical schools. Unfortunately, not every school is on board (at least this year), so you still need to send your letters somewhere else first, and then have them sent to AMCAS.

What you need to do is figure out which schools (if any) are participating in the AMCAS letter service next cycle. If you are applying only to schools that are participating, you can have your LOR sent directly to AMCAS (once you make an account for the 2010 cycle, which may not be until May). Otherwise, you need to have everything sent to interfolio or another letter service.

Or have them sent to your school's pre-med office, where they may be assembled into a committee packet. That's how it works at my school. Good call to start asking for letters early.

Use interfolio, I did and it's very fast and easy. Your professors can upload their letters electronically, and then you can send them to AMCAS or directly to those few schools that don't participate in the AMCAS letters service (Stanford I'm looking at you 😛).

You cannot start an application this year and save it for next year, AMCAS will delete it after this cycle is over. However, it may be helpful for you to create an account and look at everything that will be required for when you apply next year. For example you can look at the ECs section and see how many characters they allow you to write about each one and what info you will need for each activity. Though you can't save an application from this year to use next year, you can start working on things like your personal statement and such so that next year filling out the application will be much easier for you.

Thank you all for your advices
it was very helpful!!
