Hey guys I have a question regarding LOR's. I know that many schools require at least two science professors. I am a health science public health major, and I know the professors in my major really well as well as the department chair. The department chair, whom was my professor at the time I took her class, is willing to write me a good letter but my question is would a letter from her fulfill the requirement? I am planning on getting another letter from my biology professor and a dentist that I've been working with for 5+ years. Any help would be much appreciated, thanks.

No.

Find a professor under the bio, chem, or physics departments to write the letter.

For example, I have letters from my microbiology professor and one from physics II.

Thanks ICU, I was just looking at the course list from AADSAS, and there are a few other classes that I have a shot at getting letters from. For example, it looks like biostatistics is under the "other science" category, would that be okay? I did really well in that class and know the professor well also.

If not, I can ask my epidemiology professor since that is under the actual "science" category but my relationship with her isn't as strong as others. I would ask the typical bio, chem, and physics professors but the thing is I didn't really communicate with them much when I was taking their class so I feel letters from them would be very weak compared to others. The good news is however, I do have one really good letter from a bio professor but that is only one. I need to fill up the other slots. Would any of the above mentioned be okay? Preferably the biostats professor. Thank you again

What I would do if I were you, is to check the websites of all the schools you are interested in applying to and see what they say about LORS. If they say 2 science profs without mentioning specifics then your biostats letter should suffice. However, some schools like Maryland want a letter from bio and one from chem. West Virginia want 3 science letters, one from bio, chem, AND physics.

Make an excel spreadsheet to keep organized.

You're right, it'll be better for me to do that. Thank you very much for your time and help, I will make the spreadsheet so I have a better understanding of which schools I have a better chance at regarding the letters that I have. Time to shoot my biostats professor an email and set up a time to meet with him 🙂
