At my school we have a LOR bank, where if u ever get a letter of rec u send the letter to. Professors or who ever u ask for a letter will send the letter to this office. I have a few letters from professors and one from a lab that i worked at for a year. I am applying to work at a hospital but they are asking for a LOR. I was thinking about send a few letters from my account. The thing is whenever u send a letter to anyone the next time u send the letter it will say where u sent it before. So if i do send it to the hospital, when i apply to med schools later if i use those same letters it will say that they were also sent to the hospital. I have never seen or read the letters before, but will med schools still accept these letters even though they were sent somewhere else before?

Having applied to medical school more than once, and to more than one school each year, I've definitely "re-used" LORs. In fact, some schools have seen the same letter more than once.

I'd bet mine are not stamped "Sent to XYZ medical school" though. It seems odd that your school would send a letter all dirtied up with markings (not to mention marking after a signature -- poor form).

I don't think any schools will refuse your letters (I guess all your classmates' LORs look this way), but they might think "Gosh that ___ College does wierd stuff to their LORs."

bump................

It seems weird to me that they would include all the places the letter has gone on the letter. It seems like a breach of your confidentiality to have medical schools know where else you have applied, etc. Try to change it if this is really how it works.

I guess they are including it, inorder to decrease the chances that the student might have seen their own letters. I m guessing thats they reason .

you sure cal does this....
cause wouldnt that mean that all the schools i ever applied to would know whereelse i have applied?

i dont think they would do this...and if they did, then its just a file they have for themselves...and the waiver form should be enough to ensure that we did not see the letters. i use the career center letter service thing and i never heard or read anything about this.

but regardless...i dont think you need to worry about it.

Wow your med school LOR's and hospital LOR's are similar enough to be used interchangeably?

oh yeah...that too.

arent your med schools LORs specifically mention the reasons why you are qualified for to be a med student/doctor?

I dunno, all the letters of rec I have have been sent to the career center, but I will be applying to work at a hospital so a rec for med school wouldn't be too different.

About the career center, u might be right they may only keep that info for their own purposes, i dunno.
