Hi guys, I am getting ready to reapply in June and I wanted to know what I should do regarding my letters. Do I have to reach out and have the letters resent or will my committee still have access to the letters from last year?

Also, I wanted to know if you guys used your committee letter or had them sent to AMCAS individually? One of the interviews I went on the interviewer mentioned I only had a committee letter on file but I thought that is what I'm supposed to do? My committee letter contained 1 LOR from Organic Chem professor, 1 LOR from a PA who taught me for a semester and later shadowed for a bit, 1 LOR from a clinical nurse instructor and 1 LOR from a nursing psychology professor.

This year, since I am a working RN, I can get a very strong LOR from the medical director who I work closely with. Do you think I should also get a letter from my nursing manager? She can discuss my leadership role as a charge nurse which I think would be helpful.

Also, I have been volunteering at a church since I was 11 years old. Should I have the priest write something as well?

A committee letter is preferred everywhere but Utah.
Additional letters do not help (except a DO letter for DO schools).

A letter from your priest would be welcome at Loma Linda.
Otherwise, unless he taught you in college or employed you, it will have no detectable effect with the possible exception of the Jesuits.

I'm pretty sure for reapplicants you can choose to send your old committee letter or request a new one with any relevant updates. Timing is an issue though, and because some schools write so many letters, they will write your updated letter once the first timers get theirs written.

If your professors sent letters to the commmittee then yes, they will still have your other LORs and those can also be sent as they were or updated (but then you have to go through your professor and they also should be given several weeks in advance).

Thanks for the response. Do you recommend I send the LOR from the medical director to the committee or attach it separately?

I do not recommend letters in addition to the committee letter. If your committee accepts additional letters and you believe the addition to be substantive, add it to the committee letter.

At my state school they wanted a letter from someone outside of academics, so it wouldn't hurt to have something from an employer or long term volunteer gig. Just know not all schools will need it.
