Hey all. I’ve been out of college for a solid 8 years now. I saw that a lot of schools require that you get a letter from a non science professor. Currently I have a letter each from my PI and the dean of my college, as well as two letters from medical ECs. I have a letter from a different PI that’s already written, but it seemed redundant to have two from PIs.

My question is: I didn’t really form any relationships with non-science professors. How much of a problem is this? I do have a good relationship with a music professor at my alma mater, but I never took a class from him. Could I potentially ask him? Do I need to?
Some schools will allow nontrads to substitute another letter, like a work letter. Some address this situation on their website, some schools you have to petition for an exception, and others will hold fast to their requirements and make no exceptions.

As far as having the music professor provide the nonscience LOR, you'd have to read each website carefully and be sure that it doesn't state the letter must be from "faculty who taught you." Be sure this person would provide you with a LOR that isn't just a character reference or hear-say. The letter must relate concrete observations of you in situations that reveal characteristics important to those entering medicine, or it is a waste of time.
