Hey---

I'd like to have all secondaries/LORs turned in by the beginning of August (not getting back from Europe until then), and so to expedite the process I was thinking of having my recommendors send X number of copes of signed, sealed, unaddressed LORs to my home and then I would address them and send them to schools. That way, the ADCOMs will know that no one has read them, and I can send everything in right away when I get back. Is this okay, or not okay? I can't think of a reason that it shouldn't be okay.

I've sent things like that many times. For instance, sometimes I would have them all sealed and then go to the post office and overnight 'em with confirm receipt, etc, etc...

So I think you will be fine. Oh...one thing. I do recall some schools wanting certain signed eval papers EVEN IF they were writing a letter in lieu of the pre fab evals.

If you can afford it, I would try an online resume storage site like interfolio.com. It's online, accessible from anywhere with an internet connection, and you can direct them to send copies of LORs whenever/wherever you are.

An additional advantage is that your LOR writers only have to submit their letter once.

But first, I would check with your school to see if they have a premed/career center that would receive the LORs and resend them on official letterhead, etc., as you need them to. That would be the cheapest way to do it.

I would also strongly urge you send in your secondaries as early as possible. I completed all my secondaries by July, had my first interview in September, and finished interviewing in November. There is a distinct advantage to being one of the first bunch of applicants/interviewees out of the gate. There are more seats open, there's less of crunch at each admissions office which means turnaround time is low, and a better chance of being accepted right off the bat.

I would be careful in asking your recommenders to send letters directly to you. The reason i say this is because many of us have to sign confidentiality waivers for letters and this would be breaking your agreement (even if you didn't open one of the letters...). Other recommenders might not be comfortable doing this as well. i think it's a good idea, but i'd check everything out before embarking... like other posters have stated, check to see if your school has a letter service, they will take care of everything for you and it'll be more work off of you.

I think it would be just as easy if not more to use interfolio. Check it out.

interfolio is the way to go if your prospective med schools accept them. I have not heard of any that won't. You can send in LORs while on vacation as long as you have access to an internet connection.
