My prof send me a copy of LOR after he sent it in. He made the mistake of referring to me (a boy) as a girl. He said her twice instead of his? I showed him the mistake and he was willing to fix it but the letter has already been uploaded to amcas and the schools have downloaded it.

I realized I didn't post a question: will this hurt me? like they will think I don't know him well or that he used someone elses letter and just changed the names?

yea a lot of profs do that...they just have one standard letter, make changes and mail it out
this happened to me once before..but the letter was for a job interview so not that big of a deal
i think at the moment, there is really nothing you can do about it...but if you get an interview, maybe be prepared to answer the question as to 'what the hell happened here?' lol

it was actually four times, and it doesn't even seem like he proofread it. do you think sending another letter from a prof to dilute this one would be a good idea, I already had one on virtualevals but didn't assign it to schools yet.

please any opinions, i am completely breaking down right now to think that everything i've worked so hard for might be over because of this letter

Relax - it's fine. Everyone uses templates, I'm sure the people reading your letters have done it themselves before.

thanks for saying that, i know i can get a bit overdramatic and hysterical its just i haven't heard anything from the schools i've been complete at for a long time so i can't help but think that it is because of this letter. Anyone else have any opinions good or bad (they can't be as bad as what i'm thinking)

If there's an error in the letter, it diminishes its value even if it is corrected. It means that the letter writer doesn't care much for you. Sad but true.

I'm fine if this letter has no value. But will it hurt the rest of my app? Like I'm so useless, crappy etc that someone i've worked with won't even bother to proofread?

You'll be OK obog, take a deep breath.
Adcoms have to read so many letters anyway, so it probably won't even catch the reader's eye.
I wouldn't try to correct it now though, it might just bring unwanted attention to this.
