LOR question

Generally, yes. I'd say it depends on your relationship... If s/he clearly knows what your aspirations are and you've talked somewhat (s/he knows you well enough), I wouldn't say you need it. Although some people say that you should give your LOR writer your PS too. idk... good luck.
 
If you don't know them very well, you should give them a transcript, a resume, and a short statement on why you want to go into medicine and what you like out of the letter (basically a shortened PS - in my case it was 4 pages :laugh:).

I would also have some conversations with them about medicine and your reasons and stuff so they can get to know you better if necessary.
