This summer I jobshadowed two physicians and I'm sure they'd be willing to hook me up with letters of recommendation. The problem is, I don't need them until NEXT summer. However, I feel that I need to obtain those letters as soon as possible before they forget who I am or feel less obligated to help me out with the LOR's.

Do I request the LOR's now? If so, do I have them sent to me, or should I have them sent to my premed advisor? I can't imagine asking busy doctors to address letters for each of my prospective schools. So, should I have them addressed to "To Whom It May Concern" instead?

For those who have crossed this bridge, how should I handle the LOR issue?

get them now.

have them sent to you premed advisor committe. you dont want the adcoms to know that you've seen them. prepare mailing labels or manilla envelopes for your recommenders.
