I am so mad!!!

My health professionals advisor is sabatoging my application!

First of all, she said she "prefers" to send LoR's which I gave her to the schools directly. Furthermore, she made me sign a voucher saying that I denounce any priviledge of seeing the LoRs. They go straight from the author to her - that's it. Okay - so now I get a form from one of the schools I applied to saying that they only accept letters through the AADSAS system. Now what??????? :scared:

Second of all, one might begin to wonder at this point "Hmmm... they are sending you a notice about LoR's now? Why? Shouldn't they HAVE your LoR's already?" Yes - THEY SHOULD! My STUPID health professionals advisor vouched to send them out on July 7. So a month and a half later - they still haven't been sent out!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 😡

I'm pulling my hair out! And of course, I can't give her any lip. I basically have to kiss her A#$ because she's the committee member and her letter gets seen by schools! :scared:

So all my hard work to get my app in early is basically gone to s%@t - WTF!

Unbelievable... It's their job to get them out on time! That is horrible. I don't know, but maybe you want to email or call the schools you applied to to let them know what's going on. I emailed one to tell them that my final letter was going to be on the way a week after i sent in my fee. He took well to it.

If the school wants the LORs through AADSAS, have your pre-health committee send the LOR through to AADSAS. Everyone here keeps recommending that applicants send LORs directly to the schools, but you really should check the schools requirements. Call them and see if they're willing to make an exception for you. Otherwise there's not much you can do other than to comply with their requirements.

Can I ask which school sent this letter to you? I am using my university to send my LORs to the dental schools, so I'm sorta freaked out now :-/

i was so paranoid about my LORs (ie. timeline, arrival, etc.) that i had each person writing a letter send them both directly to the schools to which i am applying AND to AADSAS because i was worried about situations like this

all you can do now is drop off an envelope with the AADSAS address, best of luck :luck: i know how awful it can be

Why did a school send you a letter asking to send your LORs straight from AADSAS if your letters haven't been sent out yet?

Also, her preference to send letters straight to schools is understandable and the fact that you had to sign a waiver not to see the letters is required by most schools. Why are you upset about these two things?

Finally, it's ultimately your responsibility to make sure LORs get sent out -- not her's. I had a professor once tell me that he did, indeed, already mail out my letter and we found out two weeks later that it was at the bottom of a pile of letters on his desk at home. Good thing I asked him about it again. At this point, the only thing you can do is ask her to resend to AADSAS -- and, I would recommend, also directly to the schools. They'll be processed faster by the schools that do accept them that way.

Ultimately, it's still not too late in the process. Just make sure stuff gets to the schools.

This committee member has probably been burned by this before. There are assembly services which you can pay to hold all of your letters of recommendation and credentials and then you pay them more to forward your credentials out when you need them. Some schools provide the same service for a fee or for free. If you signed a letter waiving your right to see it, then if it is sent to any form of a forwarding service to include your school you have defeated the waiver. This may or may not affect the strength of the letter. I've always been told that you always want to sign the waiver - it shows that you have confidence in the LOR. It is reasonable for the writer to expect that the waiver be in force once you signed it.

You might want to explain what AADSAS is, how AADSAS enforces the waiver, printout some stuff from the AADSAS website, printout some stuff from the school at issue, show the letter you got saying send it to AADSAS. If it doesn't work then go the route everyone else uses who doesn't have a committee - LORs from science profs.

Yes, this stinks. Why people like this sit on a committee but don't take the time to learn the admissions process is a wonder.

The school sent the letter to me saying we have received everything in your application except for your LoR's. When you send them, make sure to send them through AADSAS.

Well the reason these two points upset me is because they leave me with my hands tied. I would much have preferred to have access to the letters so that I can take the matter into my own hands. Now the matter is completely in the hands of this woman who refuses to send out through AADSAS, and even if she does agree, she has delayed me a month and a half in my application.

It was university of penn.

Ahh! I get it. So much confusion.

I think you should call the school and explain that the prof prefers to send the letters straight to the schools and see what they say. I also think you should send a nice, polite letter to this committee person and explain that they need to send out your letters NOW. AADSAS will take forever to process them...

Sorry if I sounded harsh before -- I just don't like the "mighter than thou" attitude many students take with administrators in these situations when all it takes is some persistance on the student's part. Sounds like in your case things just got mixed up. But it's not like you're too late -- just get your stuff in asap.

No apologie necesary. I agree - "mightier than thou" is not the right the attitude, and not really my style. I've always been polite to our advisor, and plan to continue in the spirit when I go speak to her in person today. 👍

Correction in my answer to your question! It wasn't univ. of penn rather it was Temple.

So sorry!

I had everything submitted two months ago. I thought everything was fine. Until today when I checked about my letters of recommendation, and found out that TWO of my letters DON'T COUNT!!! They said that my reseach advisor does not count as a letter of recommendation, even though I do Physical Chemistry Research for him, he is my teacher, but since I didnt take a formal class from him his letter doesnt count wtf! So now after scrambling around to find another professor to write me a letter, I finally did, but he said it is going to take him two weeks to do so. Now this sucks! I thought I was fairly early with my application, but only to find out that its been on hold because they dont think my research advisor counts as a letter of rec.😡

1-I called Temple and they said they didnt care if LORS were sent directly. (since they were already sent)
2-I think every health professions comittee doesn't want you to see the LORs. You should sign a statement of confidentiality stating you won't read them. Or else, schools will think you are afraid that people wrote bad things about you.

this sounds really silly on the part of "DMD-2-B". First, the school must have already received the letters sent by health advisor, and that's why they replied to "DMD-2-B" notifying them that it's not their policy to receive LoRs not from AADSAS. Also, I believe that it's mandatory to sign that you don't want to see your recommendations, because that guarantees unbiased evaluation from evaluator and his confidentiality right. I signed that I don't see my LoRs and sure that most of people on SDN did too.
P.S. Sabotaged is spelled like I did.

i m in the same boat...its been a month since the advisor to send my lor's to schools and AADSAS...but till now i have no idea whats going on....🙁
the advisor was temporary so i cant catch him at the office...emailing well he never replies...wtf...AADSAS still says pending so i doubt he alreadt sent them...luckily i got an interview though...but rest of all says waiting additional info...
