LOR writer help. I've gotten myself into a bad situation...

Long story short, I forgot to send thank you notes to my LOR writers. I of coursed thanked them in person before they wrote the letter, but it completely slipped my mind after. I was busy with the MCAT and was out of the state in some very rural areas for a few weeks. So I forgot about it. For 3 months.

I know I'm a terrible person and these aren't excuses, just what happened. The problem is, I need a signature from one of my letter writers for an unrelated matter, and it's required. What should I do?? I'm beating myself up about this... Is there anything I can do?? Should I pretend I sent them a thank you? Just not mention it?

Send thank you letters to all your letter writers now, better late than never.

For the writer that you need a signature on, best thing would be to just bite the bullet and send them a thank you email, and ask them for the signature in the same message. If it's not urgent, you can try to space out the thank you letter and the asking for signature. If not, just be upfront about it and ask them for a signature, no benefit for anyone to dance around it.

Do not pretend like you sent them one...just send one now. You can, however, just not mention that it took 3 months, just say thank you!

I thanked them in person and sent a thank you email when the letter appeared in Interfolio. I am quite certain the latter was promptly deleted and forgotten about.

It does not matter. Thank you letters are optional. Go get the signature you need.

Or you can thank them after you hear back from med schools and let the writer know where you're heading. Plus pretend like you planned to send the thank you notes after you hear back from schools.

I agree with csdanim. I'd rather hear from an applicant after they know the outcome of their application efforts. Never knowing the end of the story is annoying.

Thank you all for the advice! I thought I was't stressing out about apps but this cycle is really bringing out the neurotic premed within me. I'm going to get the signature 🙂
