I have received [what I presume to be] a strong letter from my English professor. The professor is also the faculty adviser of my school's human rights student organization (where I am a board member). After submitting my letter to Interfolio, she mentioned to me that my letter was the strongest she has ever written. She also mentioned to me that she noted in the letter that my favorite author is Noam Chomsky - something that I revealed to her in the past.

I did not expect that she would mention that in the letter. The reason I am concerned is that Noam Chomsky is a highly controversial figure in politics who may not be liked by some members of the adcomm. I am worried that some members of the adcomm may judge me negatively based on this. Should I be worried?

If SDN is politically representative of the larger medical community, you'll be more than fine. 😉

But seriously, I think this will be a non-issue. First, you do realize that Chomsky is prolific not only in political science but in psychology as well? He studied psycholinguistics as well. For all anyone knows, you like his psychological works and not his political works. And even if you like to read his political works, it doesn't mean that you agree with them. I am probably more conservative/libertarian than many here, but I occasionally read "liberal" works to expose myself to different perspectives. Don't worry!

You're stressing too much 😉 Just be happy she wrote you a great letter; that is what's going to matter in the long run!

Relax man! You just got the strongest letter ever. Let the cards fall.

Quite fussing; you're fine.

Best case - Your interviewer loves Chomsky and agrees with his politics.
Worst case - Your interviewer hates Chomsky and despises his politics.
Most Likely - Your interviewer has heard the name Chomsky but knows very little about him other than that he's a 'serious' writer vs. 'Twilight' caliber.

Be prepared to discuss what you like about Chomsky with any of these persons and you'll be more than fine.

If anything: "wow, interviewer X has a favorite figure in a topic they're passionate about, good for them"

Absolutely. A good number of candidates probably haven't read a book outside of a textbook in some time.
