I am applying to a state school via Early Decision. A neurosurgeon, who is a family friend and mentor, wrote a LOR for me. I have shadowed him many times, and he knows me very well.

However, he did not keep the letter generalized, and he accidently addressed it to my pre-med advisor (my advisor collects all the letters and sends them to AMCAS via VirtualEvals). He mentioned how I should gain acceptance via EDP "without reservation whatsoever". He is also an Assistant Clinical Professor at that school. He wrote a very strong letter, and I have the credentials to make a strong candidate for this school (above average for GPA and MCAT for this school and work full time in ER + many hours of shadowing).

Should I be concerned? What happens if I don't get accepted to EDP?

I would not worry much about the addressee mistake. As far as the content, let's just hope you get in!! Seriously though, you can always ask him for another generalized letter later on if you don't get in EDP. It would probably only take him a couple minutes to adjust a couple words to make it generalized, have him resubmit it to your premed advisor, which only takes a couple seconds to re upload it and have it available to schools. I would probably be happy that he made this one so specific since you are only applying to one program until after August (or whenever if you don't get in). Good Luck

agreed.

what may be a bigger concern, however, is that the letter was not kept confidential from you. i'm not sure about your EDP school, but all of my schools wanted to see a waiver from the student (of not having seen or read the letter beforehand... this gives the schools a stronger feeling that the letter is written objectively).
