while filling out my primaries i just assigned all my LOR to all the med schools to cover my bases, i naively didn't think that those submissions would be locked in permanently. since some schools only ask for a few letters, is it going to be a problem when AMCAS sends them 5 instead of 3? thanks!

I think most schools just randomly pick letters from the plethora you will be sending. The issue comes up when you have no science faculty members in the random picks, or no physicians that you shadowed.
Maybe you could try to contact someone from AMCAS to try to solve this problem?
