does an LOR from a dentist really help your chances?? i shadowed a dentist, and he wants my cgpa and sgpa so he can write that in the recommendation...i'm embarrassed to give them to him, because my gpa has suffered this year. i know i should buck it up and tell him what i got, but hes been my dentist since ive been little, and hes BIG on academics...because he has accomplished a hell of a lot...despite being a dentist with specialties in orthodontics and pediatrics hes also done his law degree and has phd in mathematics!

In my opinion, you should be honest with your dentist. I don't know what to say because you said he's big on academics, but just be yourself... He is going to write you the LOR anyways...You can tell him that you might not have the best GPA, but tell him what you are good at and your best qualities..

Best of Luck!

Dont be scared, but you dont have to have him put your GPA in the letter if it embarreses you.

I provided anyone that I asked for a LOR with complete transcripts, resume, etc.

Of course a letter from a dentist helps out, always!

I don't think he should include your gpas on the letter. The letter should reflect on your experience shadowing him, why you would make a good candidate at XYZ dental school, why you would make a good dentist...things of that nature. His letter should be about how passionate you are about pursuing a career in dentistry and not include your gpas because he's not your professor (he should leave that job for the professor. They are the one's who typically comment about gpas). Good Luck :luck: I hope this advice helps. If he does ask...just be up front and honest. "I had a bad year...but look at my other accomplishments."
