I had a question about LOR's. I go to a large public university (UCSD) where, it seems, every other person is a life sciences major of sorts. My classes are huge, as you'd expect, so it's very hard to get the professor's undivided attention. Short of conducting research for one of them, what other ways are there to develop enough of a relationship so that they can write an honest LOR? Thanks!

I go to UCD, its pretty much the same here. For me at least, I either
1) In classes with 500+ people, I go to everysingle office hour no matter what. If I just finished the midterm and have no questions, I still go just to chat with the professor.

2)In slightly smaller classes, ~50-80, I try to participate as much as possible, so its easier for professors to notice my presence.

3) Take as many lab classes as possible. Lab classes generally have less than 30 people so professors gen. will learn to recognize you by name, as well as building relationship with students.

4) Participate in research in professors lab.

Hope this helps.
