I just got word from Hopkins that my LORs never got there from my college. Obviously, I am having them sent, but I was wondering if this happened to anyone else, why, and what I should do about it (other than just having them resent), and how this affects my application. Should I send Hopkins a letter informing them that it wasn't a matter of neglect on my part? ANY info would be nice about lost LOR's in general. Thanks.

maybe you should go find them

🙄

If you got an email, maybe you might call the admissions office and ask them what they suggest in this situation. Sometimes when I have called, I have gotten a friendly person and I have been able to ask sort of more sensitive questions like 'what do you recomend in this situation?' I try and remember they're people too and to be as honest and sincere as I can be. You never know, they might be helpful or understanding. Sometimes they're not very helpful, but then at least you did your best.

I don't think you need to explain yourself to them (by saying it wasn't neglect on your part, etc.). First of all, you are not past their secondary material deadline. Secondly, some mail does get lost, and it may not be your school's fault. We all take a chance when using letter services or even the mail system, and sometimes it doesn't work out.

It couldn't hurt to call them, like persia suggested.

3/16 schools did not receive the first batch of LORs I sent. I know at least one of these schools just mis-filed them the first time ... Send Hopkins an e-mail saying that you regret the first packet of letters, mailed on X date, did not arrive, and that you are having another packet sent immediately, and thank you for their patience.

This has to happen all the time, so I don't think it will hurt you very much.

If you don't have the e-mail address for Hopkins admissions (as I recall, it wasn't that easy to find before the interview invite), PM me. Good luck. 🙂

AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHAHAHAHHAHAHA!!!! I woke up my whole family!!!!

it happens. its just a part of the process. no need to explain. it happens to every school every year.

it would probably make them think you are somewhat paranoid to explain why your mail got lost.

but thats just me.
