I lost my thumb drive that had a lot of MCAT related material on it. Not really worried about that since I have a backup copy of the material on my laptop. However I think (not really sure) I had a copy of my personal statement on the thumb drive. Although I have a copy saved on my laptop, should I be concerned? I think I lost it in front of a store, because I remember hearing something fall but I didnt see anything when I looked. I called their lost & found and they stated that no one has found a thumb drive matching my description.

So should I be concerned??

As long as no passwords were on it, I wouldn't worry. No one can "copy" another's PS and be able to pull off the ECs to match.
Glad you had a backup (I always email myself a recent copy, so it is in the "cloud"). Good luck.

I would say the odds of a pre-med student applying the same cycle as you picking up your flash drive and using the personal statement you wrote (not knowing whether it has been previously submitted or is going to be) are quite low. Rest assured, Everything Will Still Be The Same.

(250,000 pre-meds/316,000,000 US population) * (100,000 who decide to apply/250,000 pre-meds) * (75,000 traditional applicants/100,000 who apply at some point) * (50 square feet flash drive vicinity /103671742065706 square feet total United States) * (1 person who picks up random s**t on the streets/1000 normal people) * (1 a**hole who cheats/10 people) = 0.00000000000000000001145% chance you're screwed.

Still more likely than matching into Derm.
