I am trying to apply next cycle and am wondering how do I collect letters of recommendation? I heard about this "interfolio" but have no idea what it is or how to get one. Also could I ask for mine now, or is there a certain time frame that they need to be post marked by? Also do professors give me a sealed envelope copy or do they send them somewhere so I can send them to multiple dental schools?

If you want to collect your letters ahead of time, first, purchase an Interfolio subscription. Then, through the website, you click "request letter" and input the name and email of each professor and it will send them an email providing them a link to upload a letter electronically. Interfolio will "store" your letter until next year when the 2015 AADSAS application opens and then you have Interfolio send the letters to your application. There are a few more steps application wise but for simplicity sake I left them out at this point in time.

Don't bother with Interfolio. If you know who you are asking well enough they can hold onto your letters on their computer for the following cycle if you reapply. Plus, it's a lot quicker for your professors to upload directly to AADSAS than wait for interfolio to mail it.

I like interfolio style letter services. Using it often means that you don't have to wonder if your LORs made it or not; you know they are there when you need them. As the recipient of LORs it just makes my life easier if all arrives in a neatly compiled electronic packet. I think students who use interfolio (or another letter service) generally shave a few days to a few weeks off their application completion time, which can make a difference, especially if you are not applying early in the cycle.
