Hi Guys!

I was just wondering if I should be worried if I have not received many "love letters" from programs after interviews. A few programs have sent me hand written notes or an email, but the majority have not? Is that a bad sign?

Thanks 🙂

Morning, @toescrossed - I wouldn't worry about it at all! I know of very few programs who do this - the logistics are difficult. Of all of my interviews, only one place sent me something as a 'love letter.' It's not common for programs to do, and it's not something you should read anything into - it has more to do with the personalities of the people at the program than your chances of matching there. There isn't for instance, some magical threshold, e.g. 'we liked the person so much, we'll send them a note!'

So don't worry about it, and enjoy the rest of your MS4 year!

Okay, phew thank you Easily_Sunburned 🙂 that makes me feel much better!

I matched at a program that didn't contact me at all after my interview. Two of the programs that did send me love letters ranked me low enough that I didn't match there.

What about after contacting a program and telling them I am ranking them number 1 (which I truly am) and the PD responded with something along the lines of 'you are an excellent applicant to our program ...you would thrive... expect to be ranked above where we filled last year...' How much should I read into that? I take that as an excellent sign and keep in mind that this came AFTER I contacted them saying they were my number 1 choice, not before.

Anything could happen, don't read too much into it.

I agree with mvenus929, you seriously never know. I would just submit your list and hope for the best.

I actually received a hand written love letter last week (stating how great it was to meet me) from a program I actually had to cancel an interview with last minute... I found it nice, but obviously hilarious...
